The LCA warned consultants today about PMIs’ proposal to cut reimbursements for virtual consultations by 50% hampering consultants’ endeavours to rescuing their practice and delivering care to their patients. Our recently conducted survey highlighted the financial struggles that consultants have endured and are continuing to endure as a result of the coronavirus.

Consultants are beginning to resume work this week needing to tend to their waiting patients, yet such proposals from the PMIs in tandem with economic hit on the industry makes this difficult and is yet another constraint on the patient pathway.

 

This pandemic has decimated private healthcare and without a co-operative and co-ordinated approach from all its components – hospital providers, private medical insurers and consultants – it is unlikely that it will ever recover.
